Today I’m writing something slightly different and reviewing some activewear. Now this is a bit scary because having grown up on the internet with access to ‘body goals’ I have come to dislike my own, even though it does a pretty good job at keeping me alive. I would say I’m fairly healthy, just carrying a bit more weight around my middle than I would like. But hey ho, partly in posting this I’m hoping it will motivate me to work out so I can actually justify buying more gym wear and write these reviews!
I’ve loved TALA since they first launched, and swear by their sports bras especially if you want your boobs held in place while you work out! But the other day during their april fools day discount I accidentally bought the wrong flares, annoyed at myself I bought the right pair after I realised and patiently waited for both to turn up, thinking I’ll compare and then send one pair back.
No biggie, right? The only issue is now that they’re here I can’t decide which I prefer, and they are more different than I thought. I bought the Dayflex high waisted flare yoga pants (£62) in medium and the Skinluxe high waisted legging (£56) in medium.

The main and most noticeable difference from first taking them out was that the dayflex leggings feel so much lighter and softer than the skinluxe, which is impressive given that the skinluxe itself is so soft in comparison to the original zinnia legging material. But when you feel them, and especially when you wear them they feel very fluid and literally like a second skin. And I say that as someone who genuinely never got what people meant when they said something felt like a second skin - but now I have seen the light!
However, this does have disadvantages and I think that the Dayflex is a little more unforgiving when it comes to the body, it clings to you which is great but if you aren’t happy with your body then it could be a bit of an issue. I found that though I love the feel more than the skinluxe, I was more self conscious in them because they cling to the hip dips and stomach pouch without any real compression. Which granted, is perfect for yoga which is the design intention but I just found it slightly disheartening. Also worth a mention, that our old camel friend was more pronounced in these leggings, though with adjustment could be fixed easily.
The Skinluxe still feel incredibly soft though, just not as light as the Dayflex, though I think this is down to them having slightly more compression around the middle, which is why they are more forgiving when it comes to those areas. However, oddly I find that the Skinluxe pull down more gradually throughout the day, so if you’re looking to do some running or stretching, the Dayflex may be a better fit.
The other main difference is that the Skinluxe flares have a pocket at the back, useful for storing gym keys etc in while you work out. The Dayflex leggings do not have this, which is a slight drawback in practicality, although that does depend on usage, if you’re just wearing them around the house then you probably won’t miss it. But if you’re wearing them to the gym you may actually want this feature, even if doing yoga, to make sure that your stuff is safe because I don’t know about you but I always forget my key and have to go back to a machine for it!

I found both to drag on the floor a little which was annoying, though with the Dayflex and the material it felt easier to gather up my legs a little higher. I’m somewhere around 5’4, though I think if I wore them with some chunky trainers both would be fine, and they weren’t under my feet, but if I was a little shorter I reckon both would be under my heel, and there is no shorter length option for either yet.
In short:
Dayflex Skinluxe
Pros | Cons | Pros | Cons |
Feel nicer on | More unforgiving when it comes to body | Less expensive | Pull down more |
Less weight | More expensive | More forgiving | Don't feel as light |
| | Pocket on the back | |

Although there are more pros for the Skinluxe, I think I’m swaying more towards the Dayflex purely because they feel so much nicer on and I’m hoping (although I say this every time) that if I do a bit more exercise then I’ll feel happier with how I look in them, as I don’t really need a pocket on the back at the moment as I’m not signed up to a gym.
Now in this economy, with bills skyrocketing I know I cannot afford both, and probably neither can you which is why you’ve clicked on this. So, I hope that somewhat this has helped you decide which ones to go for, though don’t take my word completely as I am a total novice and not an insta gym bunny.
