May Favourites!

It has been a while since I’ve done a favourites post, and I forgot how much I love doing them because I just love reflecting on the month and thinking about what I have enjoyed. Finding those moments of joy throughout the month, and trust me between all the exams and marking I’ve had to do this month and other stresses, it is so important to find those things I have been loving.

Things I’ve loved watching:

So to start off, one thing I have been loving recently that inspired this list is Zoe Sugg’s videos on YouTube, I loved Zoella when I was younger when she was really popular but I kind of found myself drifting away from her videos when I was at uni. But recently I have found it so relaxing to catch up with her recent vlogs and I love it, because it feels really nostalgic and familiar and comfortable, which is all I want at the moment in those times where I just want to switch off and relax!

I finally got into watching Derry Girls and I am OBSESSED. I’ve been seeing tweets about it for the longest time but always put it off for some reason and I’m so gutted I did because it’s just so quick and funny, and I just find it so comforting. The character portrayals are all incredibly well done, as they all have incredibly funny moments but also pure moments of humanity that reminds you of the difficulties and harsh reality of the time period that they are living in. Just an incredibly well written show, a true gem and I’m devastated that it is ending because I could do with another 100 odd seasons please.

Things I’ve loved reading:

May was a slow reading month for me, I only read 3 books (and I’ve started another and have a long standing reread of The Night Circus on the go). I read The Mercies by Kiran Millwood-Hargrave, Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte, and A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas. Out of these books I was blown away by The Mercies and couldn’t put ACOSF down at all, so they are both my favourite books of the month even though they are very different to one another!

I won’t go into what the books are about too much as I’m planning on writing separate blog posts/ reviews for both of them so keep your eyes peeled for those! But, The Mercies is a historical fiction about the women of a small Norweigan village and how they build back up their community after all the men are wiped out in a deadly storm, and the threat that looms over them as a man arrives, determined to root out the evil within the town. A tale of witchcraft, community, female independence and love. The writing just blew me away!

And ACOSF is one part of the follow on books from A Court of Thorns and Roses, which focuses specifically on the story of Nesta Archeron, Feyre’s sister and the Illyrian General Cassian as Nesta has been given an intervention after her destructive behaviour. A story all about healing, personal growth and love and friendship, I just adored it.

Other things I’ve been loving:

Completely random but I went into Iceland recently because of their sign offering three for a fiver on some Barratt ice lollies and I am just obsessed with them, ice lollies based on all my favourite childhood sweets! So far I’ve tried their dolly mix, wham and fruit salad ice lollies and they’re all just so perfect and summery so I will be surviving off of them in the summer thank you very much!

My favourite song at the moment has to be Renegade by Big Red Machine which features Taylor Swift singing. I just love singing along to it and the lyrics are just so good! My favourite at the moment has to be: “And if I would've known, how sharp the pieces were you'd crumbled into I might've let them lay.” Not a huge surprise as lets be honest, when is one of my favourite songs not going to feature Taylor Swift in some way?

I hope you’ve enjoyed this and at the very least got some ice cream recommendations out of this, it is definitely something I want to continue doing (when I remember)! Let me know in the comments what you have been loving or if you’ve found anything new to love out of these things!
