5 star predictions!

Back when I made videos on my channel, one type that I really enjoyed making was my 5 star predictions and I still love watching other people make them too, so I figured I would write a blog post about some 5 star predictions I have! However, recently since using the CAWPILE system to rate books, I have been way more stingy with my 5 star ratings which is good in some ways but it might make predicting them a bit harder…

So without further ado, here are some of my 5 star predictions! Though full disclosure, since I originally wrote this I have now read two of them because I just couldn't wait... But I haven't changed what I wrote about them!

  1. Untamed by Glennon Doyle

Brief Summary

Soulful and uproarious, forceful and tender, Untamed is both an intimate memoir and a galvanising wake-up call. It is the story of how one woman learned that a responsible mother is not one who slowly dies for her children, but one who shows them how to fully live. It is also the story of how each of us can begin to trust ourselves enough to set boundaries, make peace with our bodies, honour our anger and heartbreak, and unleash our truest, wildest instincts.

Why do I think it will be 5 stars?

I’ve actually really been into self help style inspirational books recently, for a myriad of reasons and this is one I have had on my shelf for around a year. I bought it because I saw someone (I can’t remember who, sorry!) post some snippets of the book as they were reading it on twitter and I just fell in love, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. So, I think I’m going to really love it and it’s one I want to potentially annotate as I read too!

  1. The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon

Brief Summary

For the past two hundred years the Scion government has led an oppressive campaign against unnaturalness in London. Clairvoyance in all its forms has been decreed a criminal offence, and those who practise it viciously punished.

Forced underground, a clairvoyant underworld has developed, combating persecution and evading capture. Paige Mahoney, a powerful dreamwalker operating in the Seven Dials district of London, leads a double life, using her unnaturalness illegally while hiding her gift from her father, who works for the Scion regime…

Why do I think it will be 5 stars?

I have heard so many people rave about this book and the series that I am so excited for it and feel it will be fab! As I live in London I’m also quite looking forward to reading a fantasy set in it as I know I’m going to recognise so many of the places which I feel goes towards connecting you as a reader. I also read The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon which I enjoyed but was a mammoth undertaking so I’m hoping I will like this series more as it won’t be as dense fantasy… maybe? I think Shannon's worldbuilding is immaculate so I'm excited to see what she does to London!

  1. The Whispering Dark by Kelly Andrew

Brief Summary

Delaney Meyers-Petrov is tired of being seen as fragile just because she's Deaf. So, when she's accepted into a prestigious program at Godbole University that trains students to slip between parallel worlds, she's excited for the chance to prove herself. But her semester gets off to a rocky start when she has an awkward encounter with a pretentious upperclassman, Colton Price, whom she has every intention of keeping her distance from.

After a fellow student turns up dead, she and Colton are forced to form a tenuous alliance, plummeting down a rabbit hole of deeply buried university secrets. They soon find themselves up against something old and nameless, an enemy that threatens to tear them - and their forbidden partnership - apart.

Why do I think it will be 5 stars?

I have had a real love for Dark Academia novels recently and I feel like this will be no different, I’ve also heard really good things about the relationships in this one so I’m excited for that aspect too and to see how it is to read from the POV of a deaf MC as I don’t think that is something I have actually done before. If you have any recommendations, please let me know!

  1. I’m Glad my Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

Brief Summary

A heartbreaking and hilarious memoir by iCarly and Sam & Cat star Jennette McCurdy about her struggles as a former child actor-including eating disorders, addiction, and a complicated relationship with her overbearing mother-and how she retook control of her life.

Told with refreshing candor and dark humor, I'm Glad My Mom Died is an inspiring story of resilience, independence, and the joy of shampooing your own hair.

Why do I think it will be 5 stars?

I’ve been excited about this one for a really long time, as a teen I didn’t watch iCarly much but from what I did see I really loved McCurdy, especially in Sam and Cat too! So when I heard about this and its controversial title, I was immediately intrigued, especially when I started to see reviews and I know so many people have loved it that I feel I will too. I think it will be a really emotional read and I’m excited for it, I just haven’t seemed to pick it up yet!

  1. Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross

Brief Summary

When two young rival journalists find love through a magical connection, their fate depends on their facing the depths of hell ... together.

After centuries of sleep, the gods are warring again ...

All eighteen-year-old Iris Winnow wants to do is hold her family together, her best bet is winning the columnist promotion at the Oath Gazette. But when Iris's letters to her brother fall into the wrong hands - that of the handsome but cold Roman Kitt, her rival at the paper - an unlikely magical connection forms.

Expelled into the middle of a mystical war, magical typewriters in tow, can their bond withstand the fight for the fate of mankind and, most importantly, love?

Why do I think it will be 5 stars?

I mean it’s by Rebecca Ross, need I say more? If you’ve read my recent blog posts about reading the Elements of Cadence series you will not be surprised at all as I really want to read more from her and am yet to get to her previous works. But this one really calls to me, fighting Gods, typewriters, journalism and enemies to lovers? Literally so many things I love reading about, add in Taylor Swift and cats and it would be everything I love! So I am really excited for this one!

So, there you have it, my 5 star predictions of some of the books on my shelf (though when I’m writing this I do not yet have Divine Rivals as I’m hoping it is in the May fairyloot box- fingers crossed). What are some of your 5 star predictions? Did you rate any of these 5 stars? Let me know! And keep your eyes peeled for the update when I have finally read these books!
